## Older than the neighbourhood around it.

**1911.** The Canada Cement Company began building a plant just north of today's Whyte Ridge, on a site chosen for its large clay deposits. Housing, stores and a school grew up along McGillivray for its workers, on new side streets such as Bessboro, Front, Alpha and Post Street.

**1974.** In the late 1950s, workers at the plant began a waterfowl sanctuary on its grounds. It opened as the Fort Whyte Nature Centre in 1974, and lives on today as FortWhyte Alive, with its trails and lakes a ten minute walk west along McGillivray.

**1986.** Construction of Whyte Ridge began in 1986, starting with East Lake and its surrounding park. Soil excavated for the lake formed the ridge. The neighbourhood takes its name from railway manager William Whyte and the 1888 railway dispute nearby.

**2027.** The next chapter: 25 Post Street, with 228 brand-new rental homes on the corner of McGillivray Boulevard and Post Street. Move-in begins in spring 2027.
